Prop It Right: Elevate Your Photography Session with Enchanting Props

First on the agenda is determining your type of photo session.  Once that is decided, it is time to figure out the props you would like to bring or have your photographer provide for you. 

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Heirlooms:  do you have a blanket that your great-great-grandmother once made?  Maybe a special ring or necklace?  Possibly your father’s favorite books.  All these past treasures not only add something unique to your photos, but also will add a touch of nostalgia.

A Favorite Item or Book:  Do you, your child, or your pet have a favorite toy or item?  Bring this to your session; it will be a great reminder of this time in the future.

Musical Instruments or Art Supplies: Is there an artist in the family?  Maybe you or your child plays a musical instrument or paints.  Interests change, one day you may like to look back and remember what you or your child was interested in at that time.

Other Items:  nature inspired props, such as flowers, leaves, branches, etc.  These all help to create an organic atmosphere for an outdoor session.  Ballons and bubbles make for a fun and whimsical photo session.

Finally, the key is to choose props that align with your overall theme or message you want to convey in your photography session.  Do not be afraid to be creative and think outside of the box!!
